RajdipKumar Gupta, MD and Group CEO, Route Mobile, loves his vehicles. His first car was a Hyundai Santro, which he purchased in 2006 for Rs 1.2 lakhs.
“While I have several fond memories with that car, there was one interesting episode, when we were driving down the Link Road near Kandivali and it was raining heavily, when one of the car’s tires got stuck in a pothole. We had to get off and pick the car up and moved it by the kerb. I sold the Santro in 2008 and bought a Tata Indigo. Since then, I’ve owned several makes and car types, like a Honda Civic, Chevrolet, Toyota Fortuner, Mercedes, Range Rover, Mini Cooper and an Audi Q7,” he says.
Gupta owns a red Range Rover Evoque that he purchased a few years ago. “I also own a Blue Range Rover Vogue, that I purchased last year. Apart from these, I also own a Mercedes, Mini Cooper and an Audi Q7. I love the roads in Goa. The idyllic beaches, Portuguese-styled homes, swaying palm trees, and winding roads make for an unforgettable drive,” he says.
Ever since his programmer days, Gupta has dreamt of having a Ferrari. “I intend to accomplish this dream soon. It’s more than just a supercar. The engineering and design that goes into building a Ferrari are what makes it a special car. Although now my son is insisting on an Aston Martin. But keeping the environment in mind, I’m looking forward to the launch of Tesla cars in India soon,” he says.
The movie Ford vs Ferrari was a masterpiece for Gupta. “I simply loved how the story starts with a dream to be the best at Le Mans, but not stopping at that. Build an awesome machine, and culminating with the race. It’s one of my all-time favorites. Route Mobile too started as a dream in a Mumbai apartment, and I’m filled with pride in what we’ve achieved so far and what our colleagues continue to innovate and simplify communication,” he says.
Gupta and his brother Sandip share a same passion for cars. “While he prefers a saloon with comfort as a priority, I love powerful cars that give you the thrill to drive. My secret tip os to take good care of your vehicle, and drive responsibly. For a big award night I would like to arrive in a Rolls Royce Phantom,” he says.
